Color analysis: how to choose clothes based on hair and skin tone

Armocromia: come scegliere i vestiti in base ai colori di capelli e carnagione

Color has always played a central role in our lives. From art to design, from literature to cinema, color is a filter through which we think about reality.

For some time now, however, when it comes to people, there has also been talk of armocromia, or color harmony. We want to talk to you about this today, giving you tips on how to best choose what to wear based on the colors of your hair and your skin.

The topic is vast, but let's start by understanding what is meant by armocromia.

Armocromia and the four color seasons

Armocromia is a term shared by the worlds of chemistry and art: it seems it was the chemist Chevreul who began studies on color, later brought into the art world by Johannes Itten.

However, we are interested in the underlying concept: armocromia is a method that, through the analysis of our mix of skin, eyes, and hair, is able to reveal which colors suit us best.

Armocromia divides people into four large groups and identifies them by giving each the name of a season, based on the colors of nature that characterize it.

Each person therefore has a favorite season with its various undertones. This means that there are Winter, Summer, Autumn, and Spring people. And for each season, there are various undertones: True, Deep, Cool, Bright.

From theory, let's now move on to practice: why do some people look good in red (or another color) and others do not? Each of these seasons has its own color palette that highlights the individual. And so it is very easy to choose not only clothes but also the color of makeup, hair, nail polish, and much more.

The first thing to do, therefore, is to try to identify which season you belong to based on your colors and contrasts.

Why is armocromia important?

The goal of armocromia is to bring out the beauty in every person, not according to the fashion of the moment or the standards imposed by society. At the base of everything is the idea that beauty itself is “harmony”.

Through a conscious use of color, it is possible to correct skin discolorations, brighten the complexion, and also give the right emphasis to the gaze and the smile. The use of color thus becomes a path to express and enhance personality, uniqueness, and character.

Hair color and complexion: how to find the right combination.

Choosing clothes based on your colors is not easy, which is why we will give you tips on how to select each colored garment based on your complexion and your hair color.

The colors for the Spring Woman: fair skin and brown to reddish-blonde hair.

A Spring Woman has fair, ivory, or peach skin, perhaps with freckles on her face. Her hair ranges from light brown to reddish-blonde; her eyes are brown, golden green, or blue.

Thanks to their radiant complexion, Spring women handle warm and bright colors very well, typical of nature that is reborn and renewing itself. An example? The bright green of meadows!

If you have these characteristics, then your ideal palette is rich in beige/apricot, salmon pink, light yellow, orange, aqua green, and turquoise colors. In short, the warm and luminous shades typical of the days that are getting longer.

The colors for the Summer Woman: light complexion and ash blonde or light brown hair.

You are a Summer Woman if you have a very fair, luminous but cool complexion. Your hair is ash blonde or light brown and your eyes are blue or grey, hazel, or green.

The pastel shades, powder pink, and mother-of-pearl are ideal for the summer woman, who also looks good in colors like light fuchsia, pink, sky blue, lilac, light turquoise, and with neutral tones like grey, beige, white, and stone.

Among the brighter and warmer colors are light lemon yellow, strawberry red, and coral shades.

The colors for the Autumn Woman: warm complexion and hair from brown to reddish brown

The Autumn Woman has a warm or dark complexion tending towards olive. Her hair color can vary a lot: from brown to brown tending towards red. Her eyes are green or brown, with amber reflections.

The colors in this case are those typical of autumn and are very closely linked to the world of nature: orange, red, green, brown, yellow (also in ochre and mustard shades), cream, and neutral tones to be used instead of white.

The colors for the Winter Woman: complexion between ebony and ivory and dark hair

If you have a complexion ranging from ebony to ivory, dark hair, and very dark or very light eyes, in strong contrast with your hair color, then you are a Winter Woman.

The reference colors for the winter woman are raspberry red, purplish burgundy, fuchsia, indigo violet, lemon yellow, and electric blue. Having a base of neutral colors and cool accents, in line with your undertone, helps you create chromatically harmonious outfits.
